Why does the second fast seem so much harder?

I completed my first 48 hour snake juice fast yesterday and I felt really good about that achievement. I broke my fast with a nice keto meal with the intention of rolling right into another 48. But today I felt like shit with insane hunger. I ended up breaking at the 21h mark.

Why is the second fast way harder than the first? Has anyone else experienced this? I trained legs this morning, could this be the cause? I trained upper body yesterday at 36h fasted and felt totally fine.

28M 5’8 97kg - I’m heavy but I’ve been amateur (natty) powerlifting/bodybuilding for 4+ years, so a large chunk of that is muscle mass. I’m aiming to cut down a weight class.

For me it is the opposite, first day horrible and now the second 48h super easy, I had refeed today and I had to throw away 2/3 of my bowl because I could not eat anymore had to force myself to eat but no.

Answer

Training was done at worst possible time. Just as your body was at the nadir nutritionally and looking for protein to recover. Train just before breaking the fast or right after to deplete glycogen from your meal.
