will I lose muscle in a 2 weeks fast?

Hello! I completed a week fast last month (it was lovely! I lost 13 pounds) and I’m going to start a 2 weeks water fast (and maybe zero sugar drinks and coffee) tomorrow. I’m wondering if I’ll lose a lot of muscle and if it’s safe for me to do bodyweight workouts in addition to my daily walks. I’d love to preserve as much muscle as possible. Thanks!

Answer

The body releases HGH during a prolonged fast, a powerful hormone to help maintain muscle and strength. I’ve workout out during a 5 day fast and I was using the same weights at the gym, 95-100% of my strength was still there and my joints felt better than ever.

Muscles do recover too during a fast I had less muscle soreness than normal, there’s less inflammation in the body when fasting.Do you need to workout to maintain muscle during a 2 week fast? Probably not, but if you want to for fun mental health go for it. Just make sure to take electrolytes before and after

Answer

Working out is breaking the muscle and rebuilding it. If you are fasted you don’t have the material to rebuild with. I would skip working out to maintain muscle, stay active but pumping iron is pointless. IMHO
