With daily electrolyte and vitamin supplements, could you prevent refeeding syndrome?

I’d like to do an extended water fast, but hate telling my friends (cause we know how people can be). So I’m thinking I could eat only on the days they’ve invited me out to eat, which could be three days a week, to say a two-week gap. If while water-fasting, I took daily electrolyte and vitamin supplements, could I do that and avoid refeeding syndrome?

Answer

Electrolytes and vitamins do not prevent refeeding syndrome at all. If you’re fasting for longer than 7 days, you should do a proper gradual refeed with bone broth through to low carb food. Even if refeeding syndrome isn’t likely, the simple fact that it’s lethal should be enough of of a motivation to handle it correctly.

You want your insulin to rise slowly and in stages, not to spike.
