Hi Everyone! I’ve been thinking about starting an IF routine. But I love working out. How do you workout and fast?
Been doing OMAD on all 3 lifting days for the last couple of weeks and have had zero issues with the workouts.
I’m in the gym for P/P/Legs @ 5a M/W/F so basically already a fasted workout. The only thing that changed is my post-workout routine. Used to down some protein within an hour, now I fast until dinner. I make sure dinner has a good amount of protein and then even supplement after dinner with a smoothie or a protein bar so I can hit 100+g of protein.
Been having good results so far and zero issues with strength or anything like that.
Some people feeling better fasting and some don’t. Personally, I feel better with a light snack before (fruit, kefir, granola, yogurt etc.) but my class is in my eating window so i make it work for me. I alternate between OMAD and 20:4 for my usual eating pattern. But I know people who do much better in a fasted state. I think this is one where you just have to experiment with your eating and workout times and see what works best for you.
It’s fine, personally I can swim, run & workout during fasts, the first 24 hours are a little more mentally challenging but at 36 hours the energy levels are amazing. Give it go and maybe just gradually do it.
Hey what’s up - I’m 42/M 190lbs, goal is 175. Been ADF for the last couple months or so. Basically between 42-48 hrs fasting then doing like an OMAD type meal and getting back on the fasting schedule. I usually work out fasted, meaning the day after I begin fasting. My meals are around 1-3pm. But at times I also workout again just prior to breaking the fast. Most times I feel best working out fasted but when it’s legs day I usually eat rice cakes with pb and a bit of honey. Since I started around Aug. 1st, I’ve dropped 21 lbs but I’ve gained a noticeable amount of muscle and definition. Definitely get your protein on during meals but I’ve found that the carbs I eat don’t really matter much.
Being on OMAD (and KETO) for 5 days a week, I’m doing my workout before my meal of the day. HIIT on treadmill, 2miles running, or tennis for 1-2 hours, depending on my work schedule. Never seen any difference in performance between OMAD days and fed days.
