Would 14:10 work for maintenance?

I started mirtazapine - for those of you that don’t know it, it’s an antidepressant that gives you insane cravings for carbs. Reason I started it was for anxiety-induced nausea, which resulted in me losing about 10kg.

Now, I’m able to eat again but the hunger is insatiable, and at present, I WFH and I’m not active at all, apart from the occasional drop out for shopping and appointments.

So I started 14:10 that helped me lose weight in the past, in the hopes that it will at least help me maintain my current weight. I’m also trying not to eat insanely within the 10 hour window. Do you think that 14:10 will at least help me maintain my current weight if I eat normally (not restrict calories, but eat within reason) during those 10 hours?

Many thanks

Answer

Yes. I do 14:10 for maintenance. I started with 16:8 a few months ago and lost 10 pounds. I kept losing weight after I reached my goal, so I shortened my window to 14:10. I’m eating about the same amount. I’m actually trying to increase my calorie intake now because I do not want to lose any more fat. (39F/14% body fat)

Many people doing 16+ hours fasts, especially OMAD, are trying to lose a lot of weight. There is less discussion on the forum about maintenance. I think many people do 16:8 for maintenance but you’re fine just doing 14 or even 12. As long as you have self control while you are eating, you can eat whenever you want.
