Would a lemon disrupt my intermittent fasting?

I’m doing a 18:6 IF and I only eat in the evenings.
When I wake up, I take a whole lemon and blend it with water (with the peel, and seeds too) as an energy boost.

Sometimes I add a few frozen blueberries, a bit of ginger and a garlic clove as well.
I don’t eat anything else until my first meal

Lemon, blueberries and garlic have very low GI, would that still break my intermittent fasting?

Answer

Why are you fasting? That’s the real question. If you’re fasting for weight loss, it doesnt matter. If you’re fasting for your blood sugar, then yes it breaks your fast. Fasting for weight loss is a lot more forgiving than people think. I fast for weight loss and I eat fruit whenever I get hungry, and then eat my meal at the end of the day. This method keeps me from suffering, and keeps my calories under 200 until my meal.

Answer

It all depends on why you are really fasting and what your goals are.

I mean if you’re fasting for the benefit of autophagy, insulin sensitivity etc. you should do 24+ hours of water fasting (no coffee, tea or whatever may have 1 or more calories in it). If you’re doing IF to cut the calories and loose fat/weight you’ll be fine adding a few low cal drinks during the fasting window.

Answer

I hope not, because I’ve been doing it for a while. You have a hella powerful blender tho.

Seriously, I’d cut the berries and stick to lemon juice and ginger extract, I’m pretty sure that it won’t interfere with your fasting (lemon juice is about 2% of carbs)
