It’s been such a struggle to keep myself accountable during my fasts, especially since my body is really good at holding on to the water weight and bloat so I don’t often see huge drops on the scale before I give up out of frustration. Any long-term female fasters here that want to share their own experiences? How long did it take before your body jumped on board with the plan? What kind of fasting regimen did you adhere to?
Bonus: anyone want to start a water fast with me? I’m going for the coveted 120 hours and could use some support :)
Edit: thanks everyone for sharing your stories (keep ‘em coming)! I just crossed the 16 hour threshold and feeling pretty good.
I’m currently at 115 hours and going as long as I can. This is my longest fast. I’ve done coffee & snake juice (water, lemon juice and no salt) pretty heavily since day 1. Last fast I had a rough time so I wanted to get ahead of electrolytes early this time. I’ve woken up 2 days with swollen fingers so I’m cutting back on the salt today to see how I feel without it.
I started at 189.9, yesterday I was 183.4, and today 184.8 with swollen fingers 😐 Opened reddit and saw a dude who fasted 6 days and lost 17lbs (😐 again). I’m happy for him but damn if I don’t wish that was me!
I’m gonna cut back the water (I’ve been hitting about 4 liters a day - I’m thirsty and I sweat a lot) and the salt today and see what happens tomorrow. I got in a really good workout this morning, hopefully it helps!
I’m a PCOS person. I knew nothing about fasting this time last year. I went through a bad breakup and ended up fasting for 2 weeks almost straight. I don’t eat when I’m that sad. I lost 23 lbs. I then gained 10 back due to health probs.
I started at the end of January doing intermittent fasting again unknowingly. My doc restricted calories so much I just didn’t really have enough food in a day to eat all of the time. That escalated to 24 hour fasts on days I would forget to eat. I found this sub after watching the science of fasting on Amazon. Now I’m doing 48 hour fasts and I’m slowly increasing to 3-5 days. I’m down 24 lbs right now since I started seeing the doc at the end of January. Overall I’m down 47 lbs since I started losing weight in June of last year. I have about 40 left to hit my goal of 140-150 range.
I am super happy right now with OMAD (one meal a day) around 7pm combined with low carb (less than 25g a day). During the day I drink lots of water with added table salt, lite salt and a freshly squeezed lime. I feel pretty great and minimal hunger! I would love to try to go beyond 24 hour fast, but I am super comfortable right now with this regimen. Saving money and saving stress from planning out breakfast and lunch! I buy better quality ingredients for that one meal too, so eating better foods!
I’m at hour 24 of my first 120 hour fast! I’ve made it to 115 hours before and I always lose so much water weight so I went from 148.8 the Tuesday to 138.8 the Saturday.
But typically I have 2 40 hour fasts a week, and practice IF all other days. It never seems to go as expected with weight loss though, but slow and steady I guess as there is a downward trend.
I started in late march with a 2 day fast to test the waters and found it easier than I expected, so I decided on the schedule of fast during weekdays, feed on weekends. (It basically means whenever I’m off my campus, I eat.) Sometimes I go all the way until Saturday, but without fail I will always start my fasts on Sunday night, after dinner. I thought I wasn’t seeing any progress (I probably won’t until I’ve lost like 30 pounds), then I got a scale, and holy crap! After ONE MONTH/4 weeks of the 5/2, even with a few slip ups, I lost around 16 pounds. Used to be ~175, now I’m at ~159. I don’t really have a gw (I’m thinking 130, I’m a little over 5’5”), because I’m basing my finish point on three look-markers: hard jawline, flat(ter) stomach, and face weight.
