Came across this Nature Metabolism article this morning, which may explain my lifetime of yoyo results.
The other thing that explains a lifetime of yoyo is that the human body hates to lose weight and has many mechanisms to resist weight loss and promote weight regain. Whatever effort we apply for weight loss, we have to apply some or all of that effort forever for weight maintenance.
Whoa!
I might need a TLDR and interpreter for that article. #triggerwarning #longform #opaque
I will say the section “Refeeding with high-protein diet blocks fat mass increase after dieting” seems spot on though.
I’ve had spirited debate with doctors about calories not being the same, they still struggle with that concept.
My best results for weight management whether i’m fasting or just doing my usual OMAD always yields the best results if i’m doing protein and vegetables, with no refined or processed foods.
If you really did absorb a lot of insights from the article though, a summary of those details would be awesome.
