Zinc and Stomach Acid

Is there a correlation to zinc and stomach acid? I’m trying to naturally increase stomach acid levels to digest foods properly and was wondering if anybody knew of some foods/supplements that would help?

Thanks in advance!

Answer

Zinc reduces gastric acid secretion so Zinc is a bad idea. Try Betaine instead. Even better try Apple cider vinegar or lemon juice with water. As people age they produce less acid. Many times this gets diagnosed exact opposite and they are put on PPIs. Naturally increasing stomach acid is an excellent idea. But the options are limited except to consume acid foods, drink hot liquids & high fiber foods to keep food moving. You don’t want food to stay long in stomach.
