Are my ketone test strips invalid?

Hi, so i have those ketone strips that tests ketone level in urine. Im primarly doing 18:6, i tested myself multiple times a week at 18th hour of my fast and it was always that negative colour, or mby a little bit coloured to that first colour that says - 0.5 mmol/L.

Today i wanted to go further and its been 20 hours since my last meal, i tested again and its still that negative colour. Is it normal or are my strips invalid? I dont do keto diet, for my last meal yesterday i ate chicken breasts and rice, could it be because of carbohydrates?

Tnx in advance

Answer

Not enough time…most people take a few days to really get into ketosis…

By the way, even on my fifth day of a fast, I only show a small amount…thats because I’m so fat adapted my body produces the correct amount of ketones it needs…I spill very little ketones in my urine because my body uses the majority of ketones it produces….

Oh that happened to me for too long and it was so discouraging. Let the strip sit for at least a minute if not longer. I never see a result in 15 seconds that the instruction suggests!

Edit: my darkest colors are after I start my fast again at 5:30 PM

Answer

The fastest i went into ketosis was 36 hours, it took a 23hours fast and 2 training in one day

I know some app claim you get into ketosis after 16 to 18h, but that actually more or less true, depleating your liver of glycogene AND all that you have in your muscle take longer than that when you just 16/8 fast.

Then you also have to net fully replenish your glycogene storage, if you eat load of carb everyday you are back at square #1 and will probably never achieve ketosis (by load i mean what ppl usually eat)
