Is black bean soup made with chicken stock a “complete” protein?

I make black bean soup in my instant pot using 1lb of dry black beans and five cups of super gelatinous homemade chicken stock, along with some onions, garlic and spices.

I understand that it doesn’t matter if I “complete” my proteins in same meal vs doing it throughout the day, but I am just curious. I am asking in context of trying to build muscle.

Answer

No – collagen is great but it’s a particularly unbalanced protein, and methionine is not one of it’s three primary amino acids.

Arguably though, if you’re going to be a little short in one amino acid methionine might not be the worst as many of the longevity benefits of low protein diets are though to be because of low methionine specifically.
