questions about protein powders

I have a whey isoburst huge jar of strawberry-banana protein powder : this is the product https://www.amazon.ca/GNC-Pro-Performance-Whey-Burst/dp/B07B81MWZS

the expiry date says 04/2021 (April, 2021)

today is October, 2022

  1. is it still safe to consume this protein powder? and would ingesting it be less effective compared to if it wasn’t past its expiry date? After how long does protein powder truly not become safe to consume?
  2. the product’s non-medicinal ingredients include natural and artificial flavouring- i assume the artificial flavouring is what is supposed to give it a strawberry banana flavour

is the artificial flavouring bad for health?

  1. overall, is this product good as a source of protein? if not, are there any better protein powders out there? what protein powders are ideal?

i think this product is whey protein , is whey protein better than other types of protein e.g. soy protein?

going forward, what protein powder product should I be looking to get?

Answer

Don’t know about the quality, but a year and a half after expiry, well at best not be effective, at worst, carry risk of sickness

Any brand with third party accredition carries greater trust in my opinion. I use one that is certified by NSF

Answer

It’s safe to consume. If it’s been kept in a dry, room temperature place, and the texture, consistency, and odor are unremarkable, it’s fine. Eventually, the protein will begin to break down and it will slowly get a stale taste. It will begin to smell funky/rancid/rotten after several years, especially in more humid climates. It appears middle of the road, quality-wise. Amino acid profile is listed, and it derives almost all of it’s calories from protein (rather than fat and carbs). So… there you go.
