Schwarma- healthy at all or best to avoid?

I love a good schwarma meal but I’d imagine it has so much fat and oil in it. What do you all think- do you eat or usually avoid it?

Answer

You should limit it. The problem with ‘go ahead but not everyday’ is the vast number of bad foods. You can easily have each dish ‘occasionally’ and still eat nothing but shite food. If it’s part of a well balanced diet pattern you’re good. But if you pick a different fatty fast food each day, not so much. Also depends on what’s in the pita with the shawarma, if its loads of fresh veg and fresh hummus I want one too.

I worked in a greek restaurant so I am a bit spoiled when it comes to my ability to make my greek food at home, but I feel like a chicken souvlaki is a great alternative! I lost weight with this recipe.

-Marinate chicken breasts butterflied open so they’re thin (I marinate mine in greek salad dressing from the store to make it easier but if you have vinegar in it just marinate it 24 hours max or the acid makes the chicken weird imo)-get some whole wheat pita bread-tzatziki sauce recipe: plain greek yogurt, juice of one lemon, cucumbers slices thin and liquid squeezed out of them in cheese cloth, fresh minced dill, 1-2 cloves of raw minced garlic, salt and pepper to taste. mix that all up and let it sit in the fridge a few hours before eating to let those flavors get together

super high protein and not at all bad for you. very satisfying imo, doesn’t taste like health food to me

Answer

It’s all depends on how you make it. If you go with boneless chicken thigs and a lot of oil for the marinade, that will be a calorie bomb, but if you go with chicken breast, 2 spoons of oil to marinade the meat, that can be pretty healthy.
