I use such little sugar in my cofffee it is only about 30 calories. Would it be better to have the natural sugar and take the calories or take the zero calorie artificial sweetner?

Answer

Stevia is a plant-based, natural sweetener (not to imply that all natural things are healthy…). As far as substitute sweeteners are concerned, stevia is one of the best, along with erythritol, monk fruit, and allulose.

Answer

I use normal sugar in my coffees as I prefer it, it’s only a little amount of sugar and like you said low calorie for the amount used. I wouldn’t stress about it, it’s not going to be the 30 cals alone that impact your weight loss journey!

Answer

Stevia interferes with digestion of nutrients so it’s better not to use it. But there is an absolutely fabulous all natural sugar substitute call monk fruit sweetener. It has zero glycemic load and no calories. I’m a professional chef and nutritionist and have been using it for about 2 years and it is absolutely wonderful with no downside.

About 3 years ago, I just cut out ALL added sweeteners period. My coffee tasted horrible at first, but now I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Artificial sweeteners can be the cause of digestive issues such as bloating and gas, so I would highly suggest sticking with the real sugar (plus it will probably taste better)Artificial Sugar Health Impacts

My understanding is that Stevia is natural also, it’s just not cane sugar. Sweeteners like Sweet & Low and Splenda are artificial and from what I’ve read, very dangerous for our gut and nervous system. Pretty sure it’s what caused my mother’s Diabetes.

Answer

I would take natural sugar if you’re going to be doing this constantly on a long term basis. Refined sugar isn’t great for your health, it should be consumed very moderately. Here is my two cents since it’s your personal choice:

Answer

I had switched to stevia 2 years ago until it was recently brought to my attention that it can effect not only gut bacteria but your fertility and hormones. It has been used in S. America as a contraceptive. A study I read showed it’s use at a very typical low dose is more detrimental than larger amounts aspartame. I will be switching to honey, maple syrup and sugar…
