Hey! I hope you are doing well. I’m at 25 hours of my water fast and I just got my period. I was wondering if anyone who menstruates has experience with water fasting during their period? I have low iron levels so I’m not sure if I should be worried or not. Also I’m hungry af 😂Hahaha But yeah any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you !!! 💓
Your period, or the start of your cycle, is supposed to be the best time to fast, (assuming you’re not trying to conceive). I don’t know much about low iron levels, however, so it’s probably worth talking to your doctor.
I’ve heard it’s the other way round, supposedly it’s advice to not fast the few days before your period starts, however general consensus seems to be that during your period fasting is beneficial.
I never checked my iron levels, but I’ve fasted in the past and currently during my periods, regardless of what day it is (mostly because I have irregular periods, so tracking is moot for me), and I haven’t had any issues or changes with mood or energy, however that’s just my personal experience. Personally if you don’t have any particular health conditions or issues, I’d say it’s OK to just go for it regardless of period time, at least to experiment and see if you find any significant changes.
