Basically the question here. Does a “higher quality” olive oil provide benefits cheaper brands don’t? I’ve read that a lot of brands aren’t actually olive oil as well but can’t find good information on that.
YES There was an article that most brands sold in the states aren’t real olive oil at all. Dr. on radio said the one brand that is true is Goya. Not sure about this though. I only buy organic, extra virgin, cold pressed as its healthiest. There is a brand that was voted best Ellora Farms or something like that from Crete, Greece. I think olive oil is one thing good to spend more money on to get the real quality, healthiest type.
cold-pressed, extra virgin, organic … but also you want to make sure not to heat it. olive oil should be used as a “finishing” oil, which is to say you can drizzle it on hot food or use it in dressings, but not actually cook with it. at higher temps it quickly becomes carcinogenic.
There are certifications that show an olive oil is what it claims to be. Here’s an article explaining the different certifications: https://olivewellnessinstitute.org/extra-virgin-olive-oil/certifications/
