Are there any ingredients or foods that should genuinely be avoided?

I know that trans fats should never consumed, but I’ve seen stuff in the news recently that has said stuff like Titanium Dioxide (a pretty common additive) here in the states has been banned in the EU. Now, with a lot of things banned in the EU that are not banned here in the states, it feels as if a lot of the evidence is stuff like “it is linked to X thing”. Rather than being a strictly causal kind of link. At this point, I feel like everything either causes cancer or is unhealthy in some kind of way.

Answer

If you have a pre-existing health condition that prohibits you from consuming something specific, then the answer is yes.

Otherwise no. It takes a lot for something to become bad for your health. It’s usually not worth stressing over singe foods or nutrients.

That said, there are probably foods and ingredients you probably shouldn’t consume often in certain amounts, especially if your other lifestyle factors are poor.
