Beware: Stevia in the Raw is NOT primarily stevia

I was checking my BHB and glucose levels by keto-mojo after drinking coffee with a stevia in the raw at Starbucks, noticed I dropped from 1.5mmol to 1.0mmol BHB. Examined the packet and realized the main ingredient is actually DEXTROSE with 1g of carbs per packet, with some small amount of stevia as the second ingredient so that they can market it as stevia. The stevia packers from Costco are 100% stevia. Will be carrying around my own packets from now on.

Answer

Always check labels, a lot of stevias come with additives like maltitol and dextrose, especially the liquid ones and they are noticeable in taste as they are very sweet right away. Pure stevia is discreetly sweet and obviously more expensive XD

Answer

I completely stopped taking Stevia due to this very reason. A friend of a friend had to be admitted to the hospital due to some liver problems after taking the wrong type, marketed as ‘stevia’. I now take all drinks plain and on some days just with salt.

Be very careful.
