Does doing 18:6 or 20:4 really make a difference for weight loss?

I’m 31F, my wedding weight was 162, and 11 months after having my twins I am still at 230. I’m feeling hopeless and exhausted, and I really can’t commit to a “real” diet at the moment because my mental health is already not great, to say the least. This sub has me wondering, does changing the interval of when you eat make a difference? I’ve seen some progress pics, but I’m pretty skeptical. It would seem pretty easy to commit to 18:6, just skip breakfast and have an early dinner. Does that really make a difference?

Answer

I was trying to do 20:4 and found it really difficult and frustrating. Moved to 18-6 and it’s a lot more manageable. I sometimes stretch it to 20-4 depending how I’m feeling.

I’m not sure how much IF has contributed to my weight loss since I’m doing a bunch of things differently but I’m down 34 lbs over about 3 months. It’s definitely helped and 18-6 doesn’t feel like a big chore which I think is important.

Answer

I lost 40 pounds in a year by doing the following (16:8):

  1. Skip breakfast, (but have coffee w cream, bc life is too short for sad bean water)
  2. No second helpings at meal times.
  3. Drink half gallon of water each day.
  4. Try to walk 10,000 steps each day.
  5. Switch from beer to white claw.

Achievable goals was very important for me.

Other than that, I’d TRY to eat more veggies and TRY to eat fewer carbs.

Answer

What will make the biggest difference is the one you can commit to over the longer term

If 18:6 seems easy I would day go for that and if you have random days you feel like you can go a couple extra hours that may be the best mix.

Good luck.

Answer

I’m a volume eater so I am way more likely to stick to my calorie limit if I can eat 2 moderately sized meals or one large meal a day. I don’t feel hungry this way but if I eat small “diet” meals all day I don’t feel satisfied.

Answer

I lost about 6 kgs on 16:8 in 6 months after my first child, and 20kgs on 21:3 in 6 months after my second. I know it’s not exactly what you asked but I definitely noticed a difference between the two. Good luck!!
