26 days into a 30 day originally 20:4 fast (now 18:6). I think I'm going to quit and call it a fail.

I cannot go 18 hours without eating. I can’t even go 16 hours without eating. The most I’ve gone without eating in the past 16 days is 12 hours, and that was a struggle.

I don’t know what to do now. I probably haven’t lost ANY weight. This was a last ditch effort by my doctor and nutritionist to help me lose weight, but if I can’t stick to it, I just feel doomed.

I’m really just lost and feeling like a failure right now. If I don’t lose weight, I’ll just get sicker.

Plus, one of my best friends is in the hospital and they are giving her 48 hours to live if they can’t get her infection under control.

What’s the use, really? I’m 70. I have one friend who is having open heart surgery to try to save his life, and one dying. Both are only two years older than I am. I’m on the borderline of being pre-diabetic with horrible GERD and LUPUS and can’t stick to a diet.

O.K., I know this is depressing, so I’m going to quit now. I need to think this through, but IF evidently just isn’t for me, just like every other freaking diet I’ve tried. I’m going to go straight Mediterranean and give up on losing weight, just try not to gain and eat healthier.

Thanks for all the encouragement. At least I can say I tried.

Answer

What are you eating during your fasting hours? If you eat only carbs, you won’t last.

Before you give up, why don’t you try again and increase your protein intake during your eating window. You don’t have to go full keto, but you should spend your eating window with protein and healthy fats.

Don’t give up before the miracle happens. 😘

I am going to write about myself a little because I think you will be able to relate somewhat…I am 64 and have done every diet many times! You name it I have tried it at least once. Lost some weight on some but never enough and always gained back because I wanted to eat all the food I gave up!I have been doing IF since the last week of March and have lost 17 lbs. which believe me is a total miracle! I do eat whatever I want during my eating window which is now only 1 hour to 4, unless visiting or have visitors then I do what I want. So I mostly do OMAD. I know that if 12 hours is difficult for you 20-24 probably sounds impossible! But I think that you gave yourself a break from being perfect you could just do the 12 and try and increase by 30mins once comfortably with the 12 you could increase your fasting time but even just doing 12 hours should help you lose weight. Just concentrate on doing 12hours and eating as healthy as possible! As I said I do follow keto or even low carb because then I do not feel deprived. I know I would lose more if I ate healthier but this is the first thing that has worked for me and I am in no hurry. It might be worth another try, just do not be hard on yourself, it is ok if you need to eat a little then move on. Best of luck if you decide to try again. Also my condolences on you friends.

Answer

Can you say you tried? Bluntly you let your need for food outweigh your health and desire to be in better shape.

Easier said than done sometimes because people who have a good relationship with food don’t end up in this position in the first place do they?
