Entering Ketosis using dry fast

I would like to understand how long it takes for the body to enter into ketosis when soft dry fasting.

At this point i have been dry fasting for just over 36hrs. I understand that by this time i should have entered ketosis, but when i tested my blood this morning, my blood ketone showed up as 0.1.
This seems like a rather strange phenomenon.
I was under the assumption that under any circumstance, 24-36hrs into a dry fast you would be into ketosis.

Based on this experience i would venture a few thoughts.

  1. What and how much you have been eating prior to starting a dry fast does matter. I was having a cheat week due to religous festival.
  2. Your activity level does matter when you start your dry fast. Especially if you have not been eating somewhat healthy. During the entire 36hrs i was in a very rested state. Not moving around much, not doing any kind of activity.
  3. My 0.1 blood ketone could potentially be the dawn effect

What do you guys think ?

Answer

The first time you enter ketosis it can take a while. Even a few days. That time shortens the more your fast, or the lower carb you eat.

I assume you’ve been in ketosis before, though. Maybe you have a bad testing strip

Answer

This is the reason I dry fast btw, to go into a water fast and skip the hunger parts. I wouldn’t worry too much just try again next time with more walking. The more you do it the less your body resists ketosis.
