How to change the relationship with food

I started fasting about 6 days ago.
It’s been hard as I was eating carbs the day before, but I did about two and a half days of fasting, then had some chicken soup, then fasting again, and now eating again.
I am not that hungry but it’s New year and want to eat while watching movies. So far I have drank half of a whey shake, two slices of cheese, some whipped cream with walnuts, and plan to eat chicken with spinach for dinner. Originally, this day was supposed to be only chicken-spinach day for me, but things happened.
So the fact is, my stomach is already full, I can feel the heaviness but I still want to eat. Anything.
This is also the reason why I have extra weight, but during regular days, I say I eat out of boredom or just because I feel like it.

I know fasting can help me lose extra weight, but that doesn’t mean anything unless I change my relationship with food, and I am aware this is something that can’t be solved overnight.

So, any tips for a big foodie?
I just stopped myself from making some popcorn, and decided to create this post instead.

Answer

As you’ve noted, fasting won’t fix your relationship with food, which is a huge first step.

Given that, you may want to consider backing off of extended fasting and focusing on building that healthy relationship. Do IF if you want, where you have an 8 hour eating window. So for example just eat breakfast and lunch/lunch and dinner. Start paying attention to what you eat and counting calories. And don’t do “chicken and spinach only days”, that’s just a punishment. If you want to eat only chicken and spinach, okay, but it doesn’t sound like that’s what you were doing.

You should check out the subs that specifically focus on diet (/r/loseit, for example) for more in depth discussions on healthy ways of eating.
