I have difficulties counting calories, when it comes to deep frying food. Usually I put all ingredients in one of the many apps out there and get a kcal and macro breakdown. But what to do when deep frying? How much more kcal/fat shall I add? Any ideas?
Calorie counts are way less accurate than we’re led to believe—it’s more about a general change of habit. If you’re calorie-counting I’d minimize consumption of deep-fried stuff for a while. Bare minimum double the calories of whatever food you’re frying, probably add 1.5x to 2x extra to account for the fat.
I don’t deepfry food, but I would try to match it with the calories from that type of fast food, that’s the same size. You can guess a chicken tender fried is around 130ish calories. A medium size amount of fries is around 400. I would definitely stay away from food like hush puppies. They seem to absorb the oil and will be packed with calories for their sizes.
