How to get through a fast as a migraine sufferer?

I have chronic migraines. I’m really interested in fasting. Did it a few times before but only made it to day 4. Had to end the fast due to a bad migraine that would always show up around day 3-4.

I’ve had migraines for years, so I know when they’re gonna be the bad ones. The bad ones are what come when I’m trying to fast. I see people online all the time saying “push through the headaches”….but it feels like it’s impossible for me to do..my migraines are debilitating 75% of the time.

Is there any way for me to prevent these migraines from starting during my fasts? I really think fasting could help me reverse lots of my health issues, including migraines, so I would love to be able to fast like a normal person lol. Any help is appreciated

Answer

Supplement enough electrolytes is what could take the edge off. Legitimately keeping track of quantities.

Also “Only made it to day 4”. I’ve seen this somewhat dubious and scary trend develop that everyone is seemingly trying to one-up some invisible opponent or others by going for longer and longer fasts. A 96 hour fast is already quite adept and anything longer than that on a regular basis can be quite draining on your body and mineral reserves. Take care of yourself and don’t overdo it please. Fasting is about the journey, not achieving the highest number of days fasted.

Edit; you might also want to look into ketosis for managing migraine headaches. When the brain runs on ketone bodies there seems to be a benefit for this condition. Incidentally, this is also what happens when you are fasting long enough.
