Is there an adjustment period?

I have chronic bloating and digestive problems that I’ve had for many years and am currently experimenting with 18/6 intermittent fasting as I suspect chronic inflammation and stress plays a role in my digestive issues and I’ve read that this can be really helpful to give the gut more of a break to heal and repair.

But I’ve noticed since starting about 4 days ago that the bloating has gotten worse but seemingly because my stomach seems to have shrunk a bit if you know what I mean.

Is there an adjustment period when the body gets used to this way of eating? It’s a bit frustrating because most people seem to be on this diet for weight loss rather than health so I’m hoping bloating isn’t a side effect rather that what I’m actually wanting to solve

Answer

This is normal and the bloating pain is enough for some people to quit after the first week. 2 things that help are.

  1. drink a glass of water about 30 minutes before eating. During eating sip on water if needed. 30-45 minutes after eating drink a glass of water. No sparkling or diet soda should be consumed while eating if you can help it.

  2. After eating walk around for 5-10 minutes. Just don’t go sit down and never lay down after eating.

These 2 tiny adjustments can reduce bloating even if you’re not doing IF.
