Lost interest in eating?

I planned to lose 25 lbs, then maintain for a while to see how I feel and decide if I want to lose more.

I recently hit that 25 lb goal with a combo of 18:6 or 20:4 IF 4-5 days a week, CICO, exercise, and healthier food and lifestyle choices. 🎉 I found IF pretty easy too. Rarely had cravings. Didn’t have any trouble staying in my window. When the window opened, I was always ready to refuel.

The problem now, is that in addition to losing the weight I also seem to have lost my desire to eat. I don’t have a problem eating, and I’ll start to feel drained if I go to long. I just don’t have any interest or desire to put food into my mouth and swallow. I can tell when my body needs fuel, but I’m not hungry, if that makes sense. I do eat, I just have to make myself do it even if I don’t want to, like push-ups or going to work.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I’ve been learning to cook as part of this journey too, and I’m enjoying cooking (most of the time). I just lost the urge to eat.

Answer

I notice I have more of a lack of appetite too since I started IF. I really think old eating habits drove hunger. I can’t say I never have an urge to eat though. I only have dinner and as I’m cooking I’ll usually feel my appetite ramp up.

It could be that you’ve just changed your mindset about food to where you just have no desire to eat unless truly hungry. But if your weight drops below a healthy level you might consider consulting your doctor to rule out any medical cause.
