Question for Diabetics - Dawn Phenomenon issue when fasting

Hi all,

I recently re-started IF after taking a break and I also just got a continuous glucose monitor.

I always knew I had an issue with the “Dawn Phenomenon” when my blood sugar rises at night but didn’t realize how bad it was until now. My issue is I normally fast noon-8 pm but when I do this my blood sugar stays high between maybe 3 am - noon. Like last night it was under 100 at 1 am but then kept going up from there, 170 at 6 am and 190 at 10 am. Nothing was eaten.

If any of you have experienced this, did it go away or reduce in time?

On a side note, the cgm is amazing, I can tell that my short acting insulin needs to be reduced a little and my long acting needs to be upped. My blood sugar was semi-regularly going low between midnight and 2 am and I see now that the mealtime insulin is too high. This should also help my nighttime numbers to some effect.

Answer

Only pre-diabetic here. When my window closes at 2pm or I don’t eat for a day, my morning miners are in the 70s. If my window closes at 8pm, my morning numbers are in the 90s. ((They were in the 100’s a few months back. )

So, maybe so eating earlier in the day?
