Refeeding as a Type 1 diabetic

I’ve been intermittent fasting for a few months and have done a few extended fasts of 2-3 days. I’ve been wanting to do an extended 10+ day fast for awhile now and just started it today. My concern is regarding the refeeding process specifically as a type 1 diabetic, and any tips on how I should go about it. Ive heard to do bone broths/broths and no carb soups for the first 1-3 days, and keto foods for the next 1-2 until eating normal again.

I just want to know if there is any advice and information I should know regarding being type 1 diabetic while refeeding. I plan to reach out to my endocrinologist for reassurance but I figured they might not have the knowledge on extended fasting and refeeding as much as this subreddit would. Any advice, thoughts, or input would help! Thank you

Answer

This is serious shit if your diabetic. GO TO A DOCTOR. You risk ketoacidosis on refeed, you should not be attempting without medical supervision. This is your life we are talking about. Please please go to a doctor. I would stop fasting or go to an A&E (seriously) if you have been fasting more then 48 hours. My boyfriends friend almost died of this condition, he was in a coma for weeks.
