Sports while fasted

Hi all, I know the “workout while fasted” question has been asked a million times but this is about playing a sport where performance matters. I work out fasted in the morning all the time, when it’s just me doing cardio or lifting. But I’m nervous to try playing 6am ice hockey fasted. Ice hockey is anaerobic not aerobic and high intensity interval shifts so from everything I’ve learned over the years doesn’t mesh well with working out fasted. But was curious if others had experience with hockey or another high intensity interval sport early AM while fasted. I can just try it but I look forward to my weekly game so much, I’d hate to throw one away playing like crap! Thanks!

Answer

I usually work out fasted and I have a half marathon coming up in a few weeks. I’m afraid if I eat before the race I will not feel well as my body isn’t used to it. I do eat extra the night before a long run and lots of carbs!!

I think if I was really serious about performance I would have some easy to digest carbs before training and races and adjust my eating window around my training schedule. For me that would probably mean a 10-2 or 10-4 eating window. Or 7-2/7-4 if you count the pre training carbs. Hmmm. This doesn’t sound that bad actually.
