Anyone else experience loss of vision?

Hi all. A couple of times I’ve fasted I’ve lost partial vision and experienced weakness and felt shaky. I won’t even be fasting that long, maybe at 15 hours mark. What can I do to avoid this moving forward. Thanks.

Answer

That is not normal. Are you following the directives re: electrolytes in the sidebar at r/fasting? If you ever feel unwell, STOP the fast.

Losing vision is NOT at all normal. Please consult your doctor.

You may wish to have fasting insulin tested. Optimal to avoid symptoms is 4.9 or lower.

Answer

Just get a blood glucose meter and start testing your glucose. Your blood sugar may be too low. If it is below 70, you should have something to help raise it. Plenty of info out there on blood glucose levels.

Answer

If you feel this way stop fasting and eat something light. See if you take enough calories, shift your eating window to better fit your life style, check that you consume enough proteins, good fats, vegetables etc.

Answer

Does this happen when you suddenly sit up/get up/hot shower with head down then look up?

This can happen to me during those times due to postural hypotension. If you tend to have lower blood pressure it is more likely. I just try to drink my water and be careful to slowly sit up/get up, especially in hot weather.

If you experience this at other times then it is something else.
