Black coffee??

The recommendations for black coffee (and water) during the fasting window I assume is because caffeine can suppress appetite? I’ve been choking it down but still find it nasty. Anyone tried caffeine pills instead? Just a random thought that came to me this morning…

Answer

Not sure about pills, but make sure you are getting quality coffee as you really notice the difference when drinking it black. Also, caffeine is a diuretic, so having it with water (i.e. the coffee) helps balance your fluids. So if going the pill/supplament, make sure to drink extra water to compensate.

Answer

I mean, you don’t HAVE to drink black coffee if you don’t like it. Tea also works (minus milk/cream/sugar), so green teas and herbal teas are fine too. I think it’s just that when people want to know what’s acceptable during a fast, black coffee, tea, and water are the main things that get recommended.

Answer

You don’t have to drink coffee or take caffeine pills if you don’t want to. Most of the recommendation to drink coffee is because it’s difficult for people to give up.

There are various benefits to supplementing with caffeine if that’s something you’re interested in but it’s far from necessary. If you go this route you should have an idea of the benefits you’re seeking and be mindful of dosage and timing.

If you take caffeine pills look for ones with L-Theanine. It helps with the jittery feeling.

I think you’re spot on with the caffeine. Interestingly, coffee seems to be pretty rich in nutrients. Overall, I think a lot of people just love coffee. It’s a staple for me. It’s definitely not a requirement for fasting, though.
