Conducting Fasting Research and Requesting Participants

Hello my fellow willful redditors. I am actively searching for participants for a study I am conducting. I currently hold a Master of Science in Counselor Education and having completed a few fasts myself (one 7 day and a handful of 3-4 day water fasts), simply cannot ignore the power and healing potential of letting one’s body rest from food. The study I am trying to conduct is more preliminary than fully fleshed out, but any data you might be able to offer throughout your future fasts will hopefully help others in the mental health field work toward integrating fasting into existing holistic models (at least this is my long term goal). I have tried to make the following surveys as comprehensive as possible without overloading the questionnaire taker. I plan on making all of your data available to you, and only to you and I, so we can both track your progress. You have the option to keep your identity anonymous, but I do ask that you use the same Gmail account when you take each of the surveys, as this is the only way to anonymize data while being able to track individuals’ progress. I do not even need you first name, if you would prefer not to share it. If you would like you keep your information as anonymous as possible, I suggest you create a new gmail account and not use any existing accounts that might contain identifiable information. If you’re already fasting, I ask that you wait until your next fast to participate. I plan to keep the study/data collection process open indefinitely.

#There are 4 parts that I request anyone interested in participating complete. #

A pre-fast survey, designed to collect various demographic data and introduce you to the study. This survey would be best taken around 45 minutes to 1 hour after your last meal. It doesn’t matter how long your fast will be, but longer fasts will presumably offer slightly more valuable data (both to me and to you). https://goo.gl/forms/6ZF5gcNUe958uPKZ2

A mid-fast survey, designed to track progress made at the halfway point of your fast. https://goo.gl/forms/rsHnm4QPjF44tanb2

An end-of-fast survey, designed to to collect information just before you begin to break you fast https://goo.gl/forms/2xaCDziUmx4iYqlz1

And lastly, a post-fast survey, which has been designed to be taken 14 days after your fast has been broken. It might be helpful to set some kind of a reminder to come back. https://goo.gl/forms/gmRrpyGaisbwTtvT2

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or email me at fastingcounselor@gmail.com

Once you complete all the surveys and I have time to crunch all the data, I’ll reach out to everyone who participated to let you know what your results mean! I’ll use whatever email address you entered on the surveys.

EDIT: Thanks to u/UnderwearFighter for teaching me how to set reddit reminders! https://www.reddit.com/r/RemindMeBot/comments/24duzp/remindmebot_info/

#How do you call RemindMeBot$

RemindMe! TIME OPTION “MESSAGE” (with quotes)

Time option and message order don’t matter. They are also optional. Meaning if you can do a simple RemindMe! it will default to 1 day and a standard message. Everything before RemindMe! is not caught and everything after is. So feel free to use it in long winded posts but make sure it’s after to avoid problems.

Note that the message is for your benefit for when you initially get the reminder. The PM will give you the permalink to your original comment.

Answer

Do you prefer that the fast be for any minimum amount? I just finished a 24-hour fast and wanted to do another one next week, but didn’t know if that wouldn’t be long enough for the type of surveys you’re wanting.
