So I’ve been doing minimum rolling 24 hour to 3-day fasts weekly since the start of the year. I’m actually trying to do 7-days but I get cravings after 3 or 4 days in and give in.
I’m happy that I’m keeping up with my fasts and feel incredible. But I just keep craving food during my fasts and it’s driving me nuts. I feel physically fine and everything, just craving junk food like pizza or fried chicken, etc.
My diet consists mostly of eggs, mixed vegetables, tuna, yogurt mixed with protein powder and mct oil powder. I’ve been sticking to a keto diet mostly just to keep my cravings in check. Which has worked well. I don’t really crave sweet foods anymore but still think about other junk foods.
Thanks to the stuff I’m eating I can usually make it through 3 days without much issue. But I’m still finding myself sometimes entering fasts thinking about food the whole way through. Are these foods not good enough?
What kind of foods are you having before a fast? Is it helping keep your mind off things?
For transparency I am a 29M at 95kg (assume around 17% body fat). I have a large stomach, but the rest of me is pretty much just muscle.
I want to bounce into my 30s not considering myself overweight, which is why I’ve been able to achieve a lot of fasting time thus far.
I’ll write up a report on my stats here when the next decade of my life smacks me in the face in a month :P
If you’re craving junk food, then there is likely something wrong with your fast. Perhaps try pushing to at least 5 days dry and you’ll likely see those cravings disappear. If you push past 5 days you’ll probably begin experiencing a fairly intensive thirst for water, but it really isn’t that bad until day 7 or so (if you’re already fat adapted). A DF should ultimately be done while you are in a rested state, so you should not be exercising, other than perhaps casual walks. After the extended fast, stick to a keto or carnivore diet as those will keep the fat burning while you refeed. Stay away from juices and higher carb fruits, nuts, and vegetables if you want to get leaner.
Green vegetables, Fruits and Chicken or fish. I eat these foods to feel full for longer and reduce my appetite. Additionally, I drink water before meals. I still feel some cravings, but not as much. I asked this guy on Fiverr to create a diet plan for me because I don’t know anything about dieting
