Gatorade while intermittent fasting

Is it okay to drink a bottle of Gatorade throughout the day while intermittent fasting? My eating window is 4 hours and fasting is 20 hours.

Is Bottle of Gatorade every other day a good idea to keep electrolytes and etc balanced or is it too much?

I’m not an expert but I believe regular gatorade has a decent amount of carbs and sugars along with the good stuff you mentioned. These sugars and carbs will throw you out of ketosis for awhile, which defeats the point of IF.

I’d take a look at the non sugar version of gatorade and see if that is any better. I’ve seen some people mention pedialyte for electrolytes instead of gatorade. May be worth lookning up.

Answer

If it’s the sugarfree, it’s very low calorie. Standard Gatorade has a high calorie count, so it’s definitely not suitable for fasting… and the sugarfree has some calories, so most people consider that to be “dirty fasting” - with multiple claims that it doesn’t support a reduction in insulin resistance, doesn’t encourage autophagy and doesn’t increase growth hormone production (all claims largely based on anecdotal evidence, so take them or leave them…)

A sugarfree electrolyte blend would be a better option, but if you’re fasting mainly for weight loss, then having Gatorade and extending your fast can only be positive.

Answer

Gatorade has sugar which will take you out of ketosis.

Technically, you can only drink water, tea or black coffee.

I drink water with a pinch of salt for electrolytes and a tsp of lemon juice (zero calories). This is still considered ‘dirty’ fasting though.
