How do I keep myself distracted? And when should I start?

I haven’t fasted for a couple of years. Life is kinda rough right now and I’ve been using food to keep myself occupied a lot, and have been eating more junk. Lately I’ve been having almost insatiable hunger and I’m worried about insulin resistance as well as weight gain.

I decided I to try to do a fast again to help my body kind of reset.

I started decreasing my carbs to under 100g for a couple of days then down to zero over the past two days, so I feel like this should help me both adjust a bit easier and have better results from my fast.

I do work night shift, which makes things a bit more difficult. I am thinking of starting a long fast today since I am off work for three nights. I do not know when to start however, or what to do to entertain myself.

I could: A) stop eating since my most recent meal (4AM) and go home and take melatonin and sleep all day to get through the first 8-12 hours or so, and then stay up all night and try not eat.

Or I could: B) go home and try to stay up all day (miserably) and eat a late lunch or dinner and then start fasting and try to sleep all night.

However, either way I’ve gotta figure out a way to keep myself entertained. If I decide to stay up all night and not eat, I do not know what I will do with my time to keep myself from being super distracted from the hunger, however, if I go home, I still have to somehow find something to do during the day when I am super exhausted. Anyone else have any experience or advice?

Even if I wait til tonight to start, I know I will basically waste my day today and then I’ll probably basically be useless when I am fasting and will be constantly distracted by hunger for the next three days.

Answer

I work night shift and option A is the only way, at least for me, when I start an extended fast. I’ve tried the other and ugggghhhh no way.
I get it - it’s real hard. I’m on day 3 of a 20-day fast atm, but I started it with taking a week off from work to get over the worst part, the beginning of the fast.
