How many people lift weights?

Looking for experience here. I find it very difficult to get past 24 hours while still lifting. I can stop lifting and breeze through to 48. I’ve felt like I could go longer, just haven’t because if I hit the gym some crazy ass hunger sets in and I rarely go 2 days without moving a barbell.

For context I workout 4-6 days a week. Lifting days are upper or lower and that’s split between 4days/week and include heavy barbell work. I do 20-60 minutes of cardio also (20-30 on lifting days, 60 on non lifting days). 15-30 minutes of yoga on waking 3-4 days a week also. TDEE on this schedule according to my garmin averages about 3300-3700.

I find it REALLY challenging to go over about 20-24 hours when keeping up this schedule.

I’m the same way. For context I usually lift at 4am go to work then do cardio or hiit in the evening. Much past 24 hours I have little gas in the tank. If I don’t lift weights I think I could go 72 hours plus. Just this last week I started getting up at 330 so I could lift and run before work. For me anyway i am absolutely starving by lunchtime or breakfast for that matter haha. I can fight thru it till dinner but it’s not fun. So to keep lifting I am doing 20:4

I am in the exact same boat. Have a lot of muscle mass and my fasting is constantly a battle between getting proper protein and maxing my fasting time.

I don’t believe it’s healthy/safe to lift and do hypertrophy training without eating afterwards. At the very least you won’t get any gains from that hard work. The only balance I’ve been able to find is switching a day or two to cardio/stretching/lighter movements and doing that while fasting. Even then extended periods of fasting almost certainly mean you’re in a catabolic state and muscles are not repairing or building, which is an issue if you are sore from lifting previous days.

So don’t really have a good answer. I’ve heard of people taking BCAA’s to help muscle repair while fasting but that feels like you’re not even fasting anymore at that point
