Intermittent fasting on shiftwork

Hi all, I’ve done intermittent fasting 16:8 with some success in the past, but stopped partly because it was difficult to maintain on night shift. Does anyone have advice that might help? The night shift is 12hrs, 7pm-7:30am. I do two in a row.

Thanks in advance.

Answer

I fasted because I worked nights! I don’t like to eat at work, so I fasted though it was only an 8 hour shift though I fasted 3-5 days and found fasting easier while at work and then are OMAD on the weekend.

I work 12 hour night shifts. What I do is wait to start eating until after my pre work nap before my first shift. So I wake up normally, don’t eat, take my nap from say noon-3, then break my fast before getting ready for work. So I’m starting off with a longer fast. Then I eat for a few hours into my shift, finishing the night with just water and coffee. Then I sleep most of the day and repeat. After my last shift I typically only sleep a few hours and then break my fast, so that fast isn’t as long, and then get back to my normal 20:4 or 22:2 schedule. I love how easy fasting is to adapt! Adapting it to fit your lifestyle is waaaaaay better than doing nothing because you can’t do it perfectly.
