Is it okay to have a few 14:10 days as I try to follow a 16:8 lifestyle?

I usually have lunch at 12 noon and dinner at 6 or 7 pm and that’s it, those are my meals for the day. But I also play in a band and sometimes we have rehearsals and gigs that eat into my eating window (for example, tomorrow we’ll have a 4 to 8 pm rehearsal, and in the weekend we’ll have a 6 pm gig). My plan is to try and wait until 2 pm to have lunch so I can eat until 10 pm, but I exercise in the morning and get really hungry by noontime. Would it be okay to go 14:10 on those days so I can still have eating time after a rehearsal/gig? Or would that have too much of a negative impact on my 16:8 lifestyle? I really don’t know if I can manage to not eat after a rehearsal or gig, the traveling and playing long sets can be surprisingly tiring, and I need to regain that energy after. 😵

Answer

I use IF strictly as a tool to limit calorie intake. I regularly do 16:8 or 18:6 on weekdays and 12:12 or 14:10 on the weekends and I’m meeting all my goals. Not getting ALL the benefits of fasting I’m sure, but close enough.

Answer

Huberman labs pod mentions this in the IF episode.

Basically if you move around your schedule a lot, you throw off your body’s rhythm and you won’t get the most benefit from IF.

The question is, do you need to optimize your benefits with IF? If you don’t need to then go for it. If you want the most benefit you need to stick as close to the same schedule everyday.

If you know you’re gonna shift the schedule, Huberman recommends shifting your time an hour a day till you’re in the feeding time you wanna be in.
