Massive Water Retention After Fasting

Has anyone had this problem as well?

Over the past two months I have fasted a total of 22 days. And when I eat again my body always adds back a ton of water weight. 3 days ago I weighed 250 lbs and today I weigh 263 lbs because I decided to eat around my Maintenance calories for the past few days. I’ve also tried calculating my true body weight based on calories and I should weigh 241 lbs by now but instead my body is holding on to an additional 22 lbs of water. For reference I weighed 263 lbs three months ago but my body is still holding onto a ton of water.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Is it from sodium because I did eat a lot of sodium the past few days? I’m wondering how long my body will continue holding on to so much water.

i suggest using this app for many reasons but one of which they have a trend weight which filters out noise. an example would be in the past my scale weight was 215 but my trend or actual weight was about 225.

my trend weight is now 207 but I recently overate and my scale weight showed 215. I was able stay calm and not think I gained back weight as my trend weight only went up to 207.3

also, ketosis is a natural diuretic . so if you ate a bunch of carbs and salt what you described can happen .

Answer

You should eat to keep your insulin levels down - keto, Mediterranean while OMAD or IF. Eating sugar and carbs will spike insulin which increases water retention. The first week of the fast is primarily water loss due to the decrease in insulin levels.
