New to fasting

I just started 16/8 fasting, not eating between 8pm and noon. I’m 4 days into it. I also started working out, which typically makes hungry lol.

Anyways, I decided I would start this process with replacing my breakfast with a protein shake (120 calories). I specifically bought casein protein (instead of whey) since it’s slower digesting and would help hold me over until lunch.

Am I negating the benefits of fasting since I’m drinking the morning shake?

Answer

You’re not fasting

Depends the reasons you’re doing it. If it’s to lose weight, just make sure you’re staying under your TDEE. If you want to fast, push back your protein shake every day (or every few days) by an hour till you’re not having it till noon

Answer

If you have anything with calories during your fasting window, you are breaking your fast. I work out on an empty stomach and I break my fast at 12 pm with a protein shake (I take a vegan protein shake as dairy doesn’t sit well with me). I then wait around 30 minutes before eating my lunch. You just need to get your body used to fasting. I would suggest doing your workouts at a lesser pace, maybe do one set for the first week at a lighter weight and then slowly increase each week. See how your body reacts and copes. Hope this helps

Answer

Your breakfast at noon or in the morning?

If in the noon that you are correct, you are doing 16:8.

If in the morning, you should add the additional hours from drinking your shake to lunch.

There is nothing wrong with a wider eating window, but you should be aware that you are doing it. If that is the case, you could slowly push the time when you have your protein shake if you want to do it 16:8. Good luck!
