I have been doing OMAD eating at 8pm every night however I also want some of the extended fasting benefits and want to extend the short term fasting benefits. I think my body starts positively reacting at around 26+ hours, therefore, this is the schedule I had in mind.
So this is OMAD but a 27 hour variation where you get a couple more hours of fat burning and maybe some extra hours of new effects starting to kick in. On Sunday you would reset the schedule which would mean fasting from Sat 12 AM to Monday 9 AM (33 Hour Fast).
Has this type of schedule been tried or studied by anyone? As far as it yielding significantly more benefits i can see being up in the air but the only downside that sticks out to me (and I could be wrong) is that the eating schedule is not routine. I don’t know what type of pros and cons that could have but the idea is the window only moves 3 hours each day so it’s a slow accumulative shift.
For Saturday to have 27 hours fasted, you’d have to not eat on Saturday and eat 12:00 AM on Sunday. Then your fast to Monday morning would be 33 hours.
It seems closely related to ADF, or fasting for 36 hours and just rolling it. It will likely be a successful as you’re able to stick to it.
IMO OMAD is harder than extended fasting. I always seem to get hungrier after I eat. Here’s what I have done.5 day fast, eat day 6 for 4 hour window. 48 hr fast, eat one meal. 24 hr fast, eat one meal. And now I’m doing a 7 day fast. These fasts were consecutive one after another. It will be over two weeks of this for me. In the prior 2 weeks I fasted for 2 days and the other week for 3 days. I’ve lost 23lbs and my muscles are looking great. A little eating goes a long way. My theory is that our bodies down regulate myostatin. It’s well known that our bodies preserve muscle, brain and testicle tissue while fasting due to the greater need for these tissues. Anyway, that’s what’s worked for me so far. I definitely prefer extended fasting over OMAD. I also have great cheat meals after breaking a fast and as long as I use up those calories I haven’t had a problem. The cheat meals help to keep the metabolism high which is something to consider since extended fasting lowers the metabolism. I really like eating what I want and looking great! I don’t always have a cheat meal, otherwise I do carnivore. So far this has been working for me.
