Questions about supplements for autophagy/TBI

Short version: I am limited in my fasting window to around 90-94 hours but am trying to get autophagy/BDNF. For speeding things along, I’m trying berberine, resveratrol, and turmeric (all in powder form, no gel caps) along with pipperine to help with absorption. Questions:

  1. Any thoughts on the approach?
  2. Should I just take the supplements the first day? I’m worried ingesting things during the fast will mess with autophagy.
  3. Is there something else I should be doing? I’ve debated adding some high-intensity interval training the first day of the fast, and am considering NSAIDs to decrease inflammation to speed things along.

Thoughts?

Longer version:

I’m fasting for 3 reasons:

  1. Recover from brain injuries (concussion and chemo) that are hampering me. Brain healing is the main goal, so am focused on BDNF and autophagy.
  2. Help with arthritis – either short term while fasting or more permanent changes.
  3. Weight loss. This one is a distant third. My weight is (finally) within normal range, if on the high end. I could certainly stand to lose 10 more pounds though and put on some muscle.

If I were obese, I’d just fast for 30+ days (did that last summer), but that would be too much weight loss (and muscle loss). My current approach is a weekly schedule of fasting for about 3.8 days, and then feast the remainder of the week while sneaking in a couple of weight training sessions. That has led to gradual weight loss and preservation of lean tissue. It seems sustainable, but I’d like to tweak it.

Answer

Serrapeptase is exogenous autophagy. Needs to be taken +/- 2 hours from food so it’s ideal for fasting periods.

Do not do any medical blood tests while fasting + taking serra. The sheer enormity of protein in the blood during this as the body tears apart the molecules is apparently staggering and nearly gave my doc his own heart attack thinking my kidneys must be failing lol. I tested a week later when not fasting or supplementing just to prove I was fine. :-)
