Will fasting, whether it be 18:6 or OMAD burn muscle as well as fat? I started back at the gym last week and want to build muscle to increase my resting metabolism and to just be in overall better shape. Just don’t want fasting to have negative affects on strength training and muscle growth
The way Dr. Fung describes it is like this - your body isn’t stupid. It will burn fat before it burns muscle. We need our muscles in order to keep going so it doesn’t make sense for our bodies to burn muscle during times of food deprivation until it’s exhausted all fat reserves. He says it’s like storing firewood and then burning your sofa when it gets cold.
