What are your updated thoughts on non-nutritive sweeteners

I know this question gets asked a lot but the research keeps being updated and I’m very confused.

So my question is, after all (or little) we know about gut microbiome, do you still use them, if so which one?

If you don’t use non nutritive sweeteners, do you use sweeteners like sugar, honey, date syrup or any of those ones with their calories or do you not just use any form of sweetener?

Also, does a healthy lifestyle (exercise plus good food choices) affect how sweeteners impact the gut?

Thanks

Answer

no sweetener or sugar > non-nutritive sweetener > sugar.

Some sweeteners like saccharine, sucralose have fairly bad effects on the gut microbiome and your glycaemic index.

I really like “equal”(Aspartame), it’s probably also one of the most studied sweeteners there is.

Some people think sweeteners are bad, but even if they are right, sugar is probably much worse . So it’s still going to be beneficial to swap out sugar for a sweetener.
