Does anybody know any research about compounds found in chocolate (cacao powder) that makes people crave this stuff and get hooked on it?
Does it have something to do theobromine (stimulant similar to caffeine but found in chocolate) or is it something else? Like high concentration of magnesium in chocolate (magnesium is relaxing mineral, it helps calms down the nervous system).
I did some research myself. But if some of you know more about this stuff, please spread the knowledge in the comments section ๐๐
Do we crave unsweetened cocoa?
What craving is stronger, the chemicals within cocoa or the candy aspect of it? I think the greater draw is the pleasure in the taste and response to sugar, as even highly processed and lower cocoa chocolates are popular.
I think it started with our ancestors, since they enjoyed eating rat poop. Now after hundreds of years, we still crave it. It is said that cocoa beans can contain up to 10 mg of poop per pound. So many people believe that humans enjoy the sweetness or bitterness, but no itโs the rat poop. ๐. And yes, those numbers are real. ๐คฎ
