Why did I gain weight on my water fast???!?

I’m currently on day 2 of my 3-day water fast and woke up this morning with +0.2kg. My body looks overall slimmer in the mirror and my stomach looks very defined. Is the weight gain just from drinking too much water? Or could there be another reason? My friend dropped 2kgs so far so I’m concerned maybe something is wrong with my body. Thank you!

Answer

Your body does that, it is normal. Don’t worry about the scale too much.

Trust me, your body is burning fat. If you are not eating you would have to either be dead or somehow defy the laws of physics for that not to happen.

Also I don’t think you would be able to see much in the mirror after 24 hours… This is probably one of the most effective ways to drop fat but it still takes more time than that.

Answer

I’m going to say this very bluntly. Get the idea that your body might be special out of your head. How exactly do you presume your body gained weight from eating 0 calories? While on the subject, do not micromanage your weight. My weight fluctuates 5-10lbs a day depending on how hydrated I am.

Set a goal and trust the math/science. If you normally burn 2k calories a day and you’ve done 2 days, you lost “roughly” a pound. Trust the math. I use an excel sheet to track where the math says I am. If you aren’t cheating and did the math correctly, it will all balance out in the end give or take a couple pounds.
