Why is olive oil seen as luxury/special oil?

Hi, I’ve noticed that olive oil is somehow seen as this luxury or uber-special oil in cooking, it’s used in every dish almost, despite having some disadvantages (for example, low smoke point, strong taste, etc).

I’m curious about why that came to be, so I’ve decided to study it and make a survey on it. I would really appreciate it if you could answer it, I will share the results here afterwards.

I’d also like your opinions in the comment!

Thank you to anyone who answers! Below is the link:

Did the survey, though it seems like some of the questions a person could answer multiple points and you only allowed for one. Food for thought.

The survey also didn’t ask the question your post does…

I think it’s pretty obvious, olive oil is a more expensive oil. On the order of 2-10x more expensive than vegetable oils (sunflower, canola, corn, etc) depending on the quality of olive oil you get.

New studies coming out it prevents dementia. It’s almost a superfood. I’ve been taking a tbsp a day for a month and can easily notice I have more cognitive abilities. I put it in protein shakes as well. Look up Lewis howes he brings board certified specialists on and every one has been speaking of olive oil as of recent
