Are Sugar Free drinks okay when I’m NOT in my fasting window?

For the last week I’ve been eating 1800 cal a day between 12:30pm - 8:30pm and I’ve been trying to focus my diet around eating as much protein as possible. (I’m not being restrictive but I’m also not eating ANY junk food or drinking any soda).

I only drink black coffee and water during my fasting window, but I wasn’t sure if diet coke or sugar free energy drinks would mess up anything during my eating window. I miss diet coke.

Answer

If you’re having it only during your eating window, it’s PROBABLY okay especially if it helps satisfy your desire for sweet. It’s my understanding anything sweet can trigger an insulin (and hunger) response – sugar, stevia, aspartame – you’ll have to test it on yourself as it differs from person to person. I’ll have a Zevia after dinner sometime and, for me, it’s benign.

you’ll have to try and see. some people it’ll cause an insulin spike and increase hunger. I used to drink diet coke/pepsi all the time but had to cut it out when I first started fasting/low/no carb and when I had one recently I almost spit it out as it tasted like nothing but chemicals :(
