Quick question. Every website that mentions autophagy, only describes it up until the 72 hour mark. Example https://www.inhousestudiofitness.com.au/blog/2019/5/15/the-hour-by-hour-benefits-of-intermittent-fasting
I am currently 15 hours into my first fast, and I just want to be sure that you still reap the benefits of autophagy after the 72 hours and you go into 4-7 days.
Same. I could never find any studies that specify whether autophagy continues if you keep fasting. Just how autophagy peaks around the 72 hour mark. Makes sense though that your body would continue to recycle as fasting continues. Nature is nothing if not ruthlessly efficient, so catabolizing non-performing cells would continue far as long as we’re in “starvation mode”, I would assume.
I (in my experience) definitely think continues. I’m 116 hours into a 240-10 day water fast. I have a cyst on my stomach that has continued to shrink. Hoping the ugly little bugger goes away over the next couple days.
What they actually mean is that the autophagy is at its peak at the 72 hour mark. After that it declines..Autophagy is often misunderstood to mean the body eating the body.. Autophagy actually means that the cell will feast on the useless stuff contained within itself.. this also involves messed up dna/rna strands..Autophagy is relatively basic and weaker healing mechanism.. After autophagy maxes out, the body engages into two of the most supreme healing mechanisms viz. autolysis and apoptosis, respectively..
