Broke down at 44 hours.

it was my first fast, was aiming for 72 hours but had to break down at 44. Just couldn’t stay hungry anymore. Not very disappointed either, I was seriously considering if I could even go above 24 and I could. Next is a 48 hour, and then soon a 72 hour one.

Cracking effort! I do rolling 36-42 fasts and am yet to break through 44 hours. Just build up to it, the second day hunger for me is the hardest and generally it’s the habitual urge rather than immense hunger. I’m at 37 hrs right now, will push to 42 and see if I’m actually hungry or not, maybe make the incremental increase to 48, hour by hour!

Answer

72 hours is a lot for a first fast, 44 is great! Honestly it gets easier the more you do. Not only do you become better at managing the hunger, but mentally it becomes easier to accept that you’re just not eating today, and that the food will be there for you when you’re done.

Don’t give up or get discouraged, S_S! Fasting is a skill and you get better at it the more you learn and practice. I was in a very bad state at the holidays and it took 11 days of OMAD to get my “fasting muscles” warmed up and ready to take on 48’s, 72’s, and 96’s. And I’ve been practicing fasting since the 1980s! Just keep at it, but know you can win it all with rolling 48’s, depending on your health and fitness goals.

Cheers and good luck on everyone’s 2022 fasting goals!

Answer

the few times i’ve tried longer fasts, that’s been my breaking point…between 43 and 46.

i am sure we’ll get better with experience. but i am also partly convinced i will fail as long as there is any food in the house. even if my tummy is crying out for food, my mind will start to focus on what’s in the fridge or pantry. and eventually the mind wins.
